US navy jet crashes during test flight

A supersonic combat jet crashed Saturday afternoon on a training complex in rural Nevada, the Navy said.

The F/A-18C Hornet went down about 70 miles east of Naval Air Station Fallon in western Nevada, an hour’s drive east of Reno.

The aircraft was conducting a training flight. Navy personnel were en route to the scene Saturday night and had not yet “confirmed the status of the aircraft crew member,” according to a news release.

The plane was assigned to the air station’s Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center.

Plane crash kills three in Hawaii

A plane crashed late Wednesday in Maui County, Hawaii, killing three people and injuring three more, said Maui County spokesman Rod Antone.

The plane went down about a mile from the airport in Lanai City. The injured were taken to hospital, Antone said.

Air ambulance crashes, two dead

An air ambulance has crashed just off the coast of Florida leaving two people dead and two missing but thought to be also dead.

The Learjet took off from Fort Lauderdale and was heading to Cozumel, Mexico, after they had dropped off a patient in Florida. Two pilots, a doctor and a nurse were on board.

The pilots reported an engine failure short after take off, the plane attempted to return to the airport.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.

50 people dead in Russian plane crash

A Boeing 737 (a passanger plane) has crashed at  an airport in the city of Kazan, Russia killing at least 50 people.

The plane took off from the Russian capital Moscow, but exploded on impact when landing. The airport was immediately closed.

Officials said there were no survivors and there are no indications of what caused the explosion. There is a low chance that this was caused by terrorism.

The plane belonged to Tatarstan Airlines and crashed in the state capital of Tatarstan. The son of the president of Tatarstan is among the victims.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences through his spokesman Dmitry Pekov.

Plane crash in Bahamas leaves 4 dead

Four people, believed to be U.S. citizens, died Sunday in a small plane crash in the Bahamas, police say.

The single-engine plane — apparently on a sightseeing tour — left the international airport in Grand Bahama shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday. Moments later, it crashed in the waters about four miles away, said Stephen Dean, police superintendent with the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

The Cirrus SR 22 broke into pieces. An investigation is under way.

Plane crash in Canada kills 5

Five people died when a regional airliner crashed and caught fire just short of a runway in Red Lake, Ontario, Canada, police said.

Two people survived the Bearskin Airlines crash Sunday night, said Ontario police Sgt. Rob McDonough. He said a male passenger managed to pull a female passenger to safety before the plane was engulfed by flames.

Two pilots and three passengers died. They were not identified.

The 19-passenger Metro Fairchild had taken off from Sioux Lookout.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada said its investigators would arrive at the scene Monday.

Plane crashes in Bolivia

A plane in Bolivia that was carrying 18 people crashed while landing during wainy weather, killing 8. The bodies of 7 people have not been able to be identified due to the charring of the impact. The plane belonged to the local airline Aerocon and it has been the fourth accident Aerocon has had since 2012.
