Danish cargo ship fuel catches fire, 32 trapped

A Danish cargo ship suffered from a fire when a container in the upper deck, that contained fuel, caught fire on Saturday and was still burning early Sunday, said Bjorn Aamlid, the coordinator of the rescue team of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre for Southern Norway.

Firefighter were almost able to contain the fire, but it flared up because of the fuel. Crew members were trapped inside the bridge due to the flames.

No injuries have been reported.

22 crew members, 12 military personnel and 9 firefighter were aboard the Britannia Seaways, the ship that caught on fire,  helping to extinguish the flames.

The Britannia Seaways was in the North Sea en route from northern Norway to Bergen, Denmark.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
