Tornadoes strike US midwest

Strong tornadoes have striked along the US states of Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. One person is reported dead and there are several hundred injured, some trapped inside collapsed buildings.

US forecasters fear that 53 million people could be affected bu these storms.

The National Weather Service warned of a “particularly dangerous situation” for parts of the central US.

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn warned residents to “pay attention to all weather alerts and stay home and inside if possible”.
