The collapsing of a silver mine in Colorado has left two dead and 20 injured, two of deam critical. The cause was not immediately known but an explosion is completely off the table.
The identities of the deseased were not released.
Rory Williams, project manager for the mine’s operator, told the Ouray Watch newspaper it was a “powder-smoke incident,” and those injured had inhaled chemicals.
The accident occurred at the Revenue-Virginius mine near Ouray, roughly 100 miles southeast of Grand Junction.
The mine produces silver, lead, zinc, copper and gold, according to the company website.
