50 people dead in Russian plane crash

A Boeing 737 (a passanger plane) has crashed at  an airport in the city of Kazan, Russia killing at least 50 people.

The plane took off from the Russian capital Moscow, but exploded on impact when landing. The airport was immediately closed.

Officials said there were no survivors and there are no indications of what caused the explosion. There is a low chance that this was caused by terrorism.

The plane belonged to Tatarstan Airlines and crashed in the state capital of Tatarstan. The son of the president of Tatarstan is among the victims.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences through his spokesman Dmitry Pekov.
