A large bomb has gone off in the west of the Afghan capital, Kabul, near the compound where a security pact with the US is to be debated. At least one person has died in the blast, thought to have been caused by a suicide bomber.
The security pact governs the status of US military personnel staying in Afghanistan beyond 2014. It is being discussed next week by Afghanistan’s Loya Jirga, the traditional council of elders.
The precise details of the bomb blast are still emerging. However, a coach laden with explosives appears to have been fired on at a checkpoint, it then crashed into a military vehicle and exploded.
A police officer was killed and two others wounded. Some reports speak of more casualties
