The head of the presidential motorcade in Liberia has been arrested for allegedly smuggling drugs in an official vehicle, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has said.

Perry Dolo was arrested with 297kg (654lb) of marijuana after crossing over from Sierra Leone, it alleged.

The jeep used is “Escort 1”, which normally leads President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s convoy, the DEA said. Mr Dolo had used the vehicle on his day off, it said. He has not yet commented on the allegation.
